Identifying Written Words
SKILL: Reading
DIFFICULTY: 1/5
LEVELS: 12, based on the number of choices and similarities between the written foils
BRIEF RATIONALE: This reading treatment targets recognition of written words.
In Identifying Written Words, you will hear a word and select the matching written word from a field of choices. You can replay the audio any time by pressing the audio button. The treatment auto-adjusts in difficulty based on performance.
HINT: A hint button is available in the lower-left corner of the screen that displays a picture representation of the target word. You can expand the image using the arrows in the lower-right corner. Using the hint will mark the item as incorrect (since it was not answered using the auditory stimulus only), but it may help you associate the meaning with the written word.

FOR THE CLINICIAN:
Matching a spoken word to its written form is a “bottom-up” treatment task that targets the interaction between auditory word recognition and orthographic processing. The task requires the patient to hear a spoken target, access its lexical representation, and identify the corresponding written word from a set of choices. Repeated practice can strengthen access to orthographic word forms while also supporting auditory–written word associations.
