Telepractice Tips & Tricks

You can incorporate the Virtual Rehab Center into your telepractice sessions by sharing your screen with your patients. However, a few adaptations may be needed depending on the teletherapy platform you're using and its features.

Here are some tips to help you use the Virtual Rehab Center during telepractice sessions:

  1. Provide Mouse Control

If your teletherapy platform allows it, give your patient control of the mouse so they can select answers directly. If mouse control isn't an option, and your patient can annotate on the screen, they can circle or mark their intended answers, and you can select them on their behalf.

  1. Use Annotations for Support

If you’re able to annotate on the screen, highlighting keywords, directions, or important parts of a picture can provide additional support to your patient during therapy. These visual cues can enhance understanding and engagement.

Using Annotations
  1. Adjust Picture Size for Visibility

For optimal visibility, share your screen and adjust the picture size as needed. Use the expand button in the corner of any image to make it larger and easier for your patient to see.

  1. Use Self-Scoring instead of Speech Recognition

Some treatments in the Virtual Rehab Center use speech recognition (ASR). Speech recognition won't pick up your patient’s speech over telepractice. For treatments that allow speech recogntion, we recommend using self-scoring instead.

To self-score, select 'No, use self-scoring' and then click Next when you start the treatment.

Select Self-Scoring

Still want to use speech recognition DURING a session? Here’s a workaround:

  • Record your patient's speech on a separate app or recording device.
  • Press the ‘Record’ button in the Virtual Rehab Center treatment.
  • Play the recording into your microphone, and click "Submit."
  • Ensure your volume is high enough, and encourage your patient to speak loudly for the best results.

NOTE: Speech recognition may still be used for homework.

Even if you don’t use speech recognition during treatment, you can demonstrate how it works in session and assign patients homework using speech recognition. During homework, patients can record their speech and submit it for review and feedback. For more information about how to use speech recognition, review this resource in the Virtual Rehab Center.

Use these techniques to deliver Virtual Rehab Center treatments during telepractice sessions to provide an engaging, interactive experience for your patients.
