Welcome to Virtual Rehab Center at Home. It helps adults continue working on communication and thinking skills independently, especially after regular therapy has ended or become less frequent.
You do not need to know which activities or levels to choose. We will help you find a place to start, suggest areas to focus on, and adjust activities as you practice.
Before you begin
- Use a device with a reliable internet connection, such as a desktop computer, laptop, iPad, or tablet.
- Choose the Chrome, Safari, or Edge browser if you can.
- Sit in a quiet, comfortable place where you can see the screen clearly.
- Allow microphone access when prompted. Some speaking activities need to hear your voice.
- Give yourself time. You do not need to complete every activity or explore the whole program at once.
Set up your plan
1. Create your account
Start your free trial and follow the prompts to create an account. Use an email address you can access, then bookmark the sign-in page (rehab.tactustherapy.com) so it is easy to return.
2. Tell us where you want to start
Choose the main area you want to work on, such as language, speech, or thinking skills. A few simple questions help us choose an appropriate starting point.
3. Review your suggested focus areas
Your plan includes nine skill areas: Talking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Attention, Memory, Reasoning, Numbers, and Clear Speech. We highlight three areas based on your answers, but you can explore the others as well.
4. Begin a practice session
Choose one of your highlighted areas and follow the instructions on the screen. Activities adjust as you respond, so you can begin at your current level and build from there.
5. Work toward your daily targets
Your daily targets give each practice session a clear stopping point. When you reach them, you can finish for the day or continue if you still have energy and want more practice.
If you picked the wrong answers to the one or two questions you were asked when you first set up your account, please email us. We can change your starting profile if you tell us what you meant to answer.
What happens as you practice?
The program pays attention to how you are doing and adjusts the challenge over time. Supports and hints are part of learning, so use them when you need them. You may see familiar activities again because repetition helps skills become stronger and more reliable.
How an exercise becomes Mastered
When you reach the highest level of an exercise on two days in a row, the exercise is marked as Mastered. This happens automatically, so you do not need to change a setting or keep track of it yourself.
Mastered means you have met the program's target for that exercise. It does not mean you can never benefit from it again. You can choose something new or return to a Mastered exercise whenever you want more practice or review. All Mastered exercises are at the bottom of the screen so you can see how far you've come.
Aim for about 30 minutes of practice on most days. A shorter, steady routine is usually more useful than one long session that leaves you tired or frustrated. Use Mastered exercises on days when your energy is lower.
Remember: Progress after a stroke, brain injury, or another neurological condition is rarely a straight line. Some days will feel easier than others. Showing up and practicing regularly matters more than having a perfect session.
When you may need more support
Virtual Rehab Center at Home is designed for people who can practice with some independence. A family member or caregiver can help with the device or read instructions aloud, but the person practicing should do as much of the activity as possible.
This program does not replace medical care or individualized advice from a speech-language pathologist. If the activities are consistently too difficult to understand, or you have concerns about your communication, thinking, speech, or swallowing, speak with a qualified healthcare professional.
