What is Virtual Rehab Center at Home?
It is an online program for adults who want to practice communication and thinking skills at home. It provides direction, interactive activities, feedback, and progress information so you do not have to choose everything on your own.
Who is it for?
It is designed for adults working on skills affected by stroke, brain injury, or another neurological condition. It is especially useful for people who want to continue practicing after therapy has ended or become less frequent and who can use the program with some independence.
Do I need a therapist to use it?
No. The home version is designed for independent use and does not require a clinician to set up activities or monitor your account.
Does it replace speech or occupational therapy?
No. It cannot assess your needs, diagnose a condition, or provide individualized clinical care. It can provide structured practice after regular therapy has ended, become less frequent, or is not available.
What can I practice?
The home version includes activities for Talking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Attention, Memory, Reasoning, Numbers, and Clear Speech. Swallowing exercises are not included because swallowing treatment should be guided by a qualified clinician.
How does the program choose where I should start?
When you set up your account, you choose a main area and answer a few questions about your current abilities. The program uses those answers to suggest a starting point and highlight three areas for you to focus on first. If you made a mistake when answering these questions, please contact us so we can change your answers.
Can I choose activities outside my suggested focus areas?
Yes. Your highlighted areas are recommendations, not restrictions. You can explore the other available skill areas and choose activities that match your interests or goals.
What does it mean that the activities adapt?
The program responds to how you are doing. As you practice, it can change the level of challenge and the amount of support so the activity remains useful without requiring you to manage every setting yourself.
What does Mastered mean?
An exercise is marked Mastered when you reach its highest level on two days in a row. This means you have met the program's target for that exercise. It does not mean that recovery is finished or that you will never need to practice the skill again.
Can I practice a Mastered exercise again?
Yes. Mastered exercises remain available. You can return to one for review, extra practice, or simply because it is useful to you.
How long should I practice?
Aim for about 30 minutes on most days if that feels manageable. Short, regular practice is usually better than occasional long sessions. It is always okay to rest or stop when you are tired.
If you want to practice multiple times a day or do longer sessions, go ahead. You may be able to get through all 9 exercises in about 90 minutes, or 3 sets of 30 minutes.
What if an activity feels too hard?
Slow down, use the available supports, and give yourself time to respond. You can also choose a different activity and return later. If instructions are consistently too difficult to understand, you may need help from a caregiver or therapist.
Can a family member or caregiver help?
Yes. A support person can help with the device, read directions aloud, or provide encouragement. For the best practice, the person using the program should make the choices and responses whenever possible.
What devices can I use?
Virtual Rehab Center runs in a web browser and can be used on a computer, laptop, iPad, or tablet with an internet connection. It also works on smartphones, but a larger screen may be more comfortable if reading or selecting small items is difficult.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Virtual Rehab Center is web-based. Open it in your browser and sign in to continue where you left off.
Why does the program ask for microphone access?
Some speaking activities need to hear your voice to provide feedback. Your browser may ask for permission the first time you use one of these activities.
How is this different from the Tactus Therapy apps?
The apps are individual tools that focus on particular skills. Virtual Rehab Center brings a wider range of communication and cognitive activities into one web-based program, suggests where to begin, adapts as you work, and helps you follow a regular practice plan.
Is a clinician monitoring my work?
No. Home accounts are not monitored by a Tactus therapist or automatically connected to your healthcare provider. If you are working with a clinician, ask how they would like you to use independent practice alongside your care.
What if I have severe communication or thinking difficulties?
The home version may not be the right fit for someone who cannot understand the instructions or navigate the program without ongoing help. A therapist can recommend a safer or more appropriate approach.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. New home users can try Virtual Rehab Center at Home free for 7 days. A paid subscription is required to continue after the trial. Current plan options are shown when you sign up. Cancel at any time and use the remainder of your free week.
