Virtual Rehab Center (VRC) at Home gives adults a structured way to continue practicing communication and thinking skills independently. It is designed especially for people who no longer have access to regular speech therapy, including those who have been discharged.
About VRC at Home
How is VRC at Home different from the clinician version?
In the clinician version, the clinician selects treatments, adjusts the plan, monitors results, and can assign homework. VRC at Home does not require a clinician to choose each exercise. Instead, it provides a guided plan across nine skill areas and automatically adjusts the difficulty based on the user’s performance.
What skill areas are included?
VRC at Home includes practice for Talking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Clear Speech, Attention, Memory, Reasoning, and Numbers.
Does it include every VRC treatment?
No. Home users see a selected pathway of exercises, not the entire clinician treatment library. Without a clinician choosing and organizing activities, access to everything could be overwhelming and make it harder to know what to do next. The guided pathway gives users an appropriate starting point and a clear way to move forward.
What diagnoses are covered?
VRC at Home includes 6 unique starting pathways: severe, moderate, and mild aphasia, dysarthria, and moderate and mild cognitive-communication impairments. Users answer 1-2 questions when they start to select the appropriate starting pathway. These pathways are appropriate for stroke, TBI, degenerative disorders, and other neurological disorders.
Does it include swallowing exercises?
No. VRC at Home does not include swallowing exercises. These exercises require individualized assessment and recommendations from a qualified clinician.
How does a user’s plan progress?
The user begins with a starting exercise in each of the nine skill areas. The exercises automatically increase or decrease in difficulty based on performance, and additional exercises become available as the user progresses.
When does an exercise get replaced by a new exercise?
An exercise is marked Mastered when the user reaches its highest level on two consecutive days. Mastered exercises remain available, so the user can return to them for review and continued practice.
Using At Home with clinical care
Should I recommend At Home to someone who is still on my caseload?
Usually, clinician-assigned homework is the better option while you are actively treating the person. You can choose up to nine treatments, tailor the mix of activities to the person’s goals, change the plan when needed, and monitor their work. VRC at Home is most useful when that clinical oversight is no longer available.
You must DISCHARGE your patients from your active caseload before they can sign up for the Virtual Rehab Center At Home. Change their status in their patient profile.
What if a new patient is already subscribed to VRC at Home?
Talk with the patient about whether they want to continue using their independent At Home plan or have you take over their VRC practice through clinician-assigned homework. The two experiences use separate profiles and progress records.
What happens if I add an At Home subscriber to my caseload?
Adding the person to your VRC caseload cancels their VRC at Home subscription so you can take over their plan and assign homework. Confirm that they understand this before adding them.
Will the person lose their At Home progress?
No. Their At Home profile and progress are saved separately. If they later leave your caseload and subscribe to VRC at Home again, they can continue from where they left off.
Can I monitor a person’s activity in VRC at Home?
No. VRC at Home is an independent subscription and is not connected to a clinician dashboard. If you need to select activities, review results, or monitor adherence, use clinician-assigned homework instead.
Recommending VRC at Home
Who is VRC at Home for?
It is designed for adults who want to keep working on communication and thinking skills independently at home. It can be a useful option after discharge, between episodes of care, or when regular speech therapy is not available.
Is VRC at Home a replacement for speech therapy?
No. It provides structured independent practice, but it does not include individualized assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, or monitoring by an SLP. People with new symptoms, significant changes, or concerns about safety should seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.
Where can I send someone for more information or current pricing?
You will find a handout in the VRC called "Keep Working with Tactus" that you can print or email. This handout includes step-by-step instructions on how to sign up.
You can also direct them to the VRC at Home page on the Tactus Therapy website: https://tactustherapy.com/at-home/
Remember to DISCHARGE your patient from your patient list so they can sign up for the Virtual Rehab Center At Home if they choose.
